Centcom Develops Core Engine for TXU Oncor's Polaris Project

Polaris is a multi-terabyte Oracle data warehouse which captures roughly 200 million EDI transactions annually. As the largest power producer in the state of Texas, Oncor participates in a huge EDI network mandated and regulated by the State of Texas. All of Oncor's $11 Billion in invoices, receivables, customer switches, power consumption information, etc. are handled by this EDI network.

Discussion of market restructuring in the Texas power industry.

Centcom architected, built and delivered the core data integration engine. The engine captures the transactions, parses the EDI messages, and stores each data field into a collection of Oracle tables. This Oracle database then supports literally 100's of custom transaction reconciliation and tracking queries.

The Polaris query tools were so effective in reducing supports costs, Oncor only needed to staff less than 50 support analysts versus the estimated 500 that was originally planned for.

Centcom had only 3 months to build the core Polaris engine before full Market Open on January 1, 2002. The Polaris project is considered one of TXU's most successful IT projects.
